On Wednesday, April 2nd at 6:30 pm, Fondazione Elpis presents The Scent of Your Memory, a performance by artist Jazgul Madazimova, a member of the DAVRA collective, which explores themes related to migration, borders, and gender inequalities.
The Scent of Your Memory by Jazgul Madazimova, created specifically for the exhibition YOU ARE HERE. Central Asia, reflects on the idea of the departure of a loved one, nostalgia, and desire, but also on how such separation creates space for new encounters and new beginnings. The work evokes the forced migration of her mother in the context of the economic hardships in independent Kyrgyzstan in the early 1990s, through the scent of her hair left on a scarf.
The result of the performance will be a new site-specific textile installation, visible from Thursday, April 10th, which will be added to the exhibition, offering a hopeful closure that echoes the collective stories of Central Asia presented in the exhibition project.
