"The voice always carries with it an excess of connotations. From the most insolent noise to the most exquisite song, the voice always means something, it refers to something beyond itself, it creates a vast range of associations": with these words, Luciano Berio opens the author's note to Sequenza III (1965), a composition for solo voice in which “emphasis is placed on the sonic symbolism of vocal—and at times visual—gestures, on the shadows of meaning that accompany them, on the associations and conflicts they suggest.”
Starting from these suggestions, the performer proposes a radically slowed-down rendition of the score, doubling its duration in order to disarticulate the original temporality and open up a suspended perceptual space.
Through the intertwining of improvisation, active relationship with space, and listening to the agencies of sound—resonances, echoes, propagations—a sonic dramaturgy takes shape that does not aim to “interpret” the score, but rather to reveal its fractures, tensions, and voids.
The voice thus presents itself as an acoustic body that interrogates and amplifies the processes of collective listening.

The performance is part of: Voices – A Più Voci, a program of three performances curated by Threes Productions on the occasion of the exhibition Dove non sono mai stato, là sono, promoted by Fondazione Elpis and dedicated to the project Una Boccata d'Arte. The program brings together a selection of artists who have participated in previous editions of Una Boccata d'Arte presenting performative interventions in dialogue with the exhibition and the spaces of the Foundation, activating a dynamic relationship between body, sound, and architecture.
